In this no-stakes paper worksheet, compare two different measurements: how many unmatched cards are present and how many deadwood points those cards represent. The selected unmatched cards are already given; the exercise does not decide which cards should be unmatched, whether to knock, or how any hand should be played.
What “deadwood points” means here
For the Bicycle Gin Rummy variant, an unmatched face card has a value of ten, while an unmatched card from ace through ten uses its pip value. Deadwood points are therefore a sum of card values, not a simple total of the cards. In that rules description, the sum is compared with the stated ten-point knock threshold.
Name the variant on the worksheet; another game may use different values.
Hypothetical worksheet calculations
Hypothetical example A: The worksheet identifies a 2 and a 3 as unmatched. The card count is 2 cards. The point calculation is 2 + 3 = 5 deadwood points. Thus, “two cards” and “five points” describe the same selection in different ways.
Hypothetical example B: The worksheet identifies one unmatched king. The card count is 1 card. Its point calculation is 10 = 10 deadwood points. One card can therefore represent more points than two low cards.
Hypothetical example C: The worksheet identifies an 8 and a 4 as unmatched. The card count is 2 cards. The point calculation is 8 + 4 = 12 deadwood points. Counting cards alone would record “two”; summing values records “twelve”.
Keep selection separate from calculation
These examples do not validate whether the listed cards were correctly grouped, nor do they create or test melds. They begin after the worksheet has already marked certain cards as unmatched. The only task is to total their values and compare that total with the stated threshold, without making a recommendation about knocking.
